11. PUKEHIKI OPEN DAY

The Pukehiki Library celebrates its Otago Peninsula history with a special remembrance of late award-winning children’s author and longtime Peninsula resident, Joan de Hamel. A storyteller will present readings from several of Joan’s works set on the Otago Peninsula in English and Māori at 11am and 1pm. All welcome!

At Pukehiki Church, there will be a display of the church's unique history with trust members in attendance.

Pukehiki District Hall was built for the Volunteer Militia in 1887 and is currently undergoing restoration. There will be army memorabilia and dance photographs on display.

13. ŌTĀKOU MARAE MUSEUM OPEN DAY

Visit The Ōtākou Marae. Walk the grounds, take the path to view the maihi on the old school (toilets available), or take in the harbour view from the stone seat at the height of the marae. Whanau/families and friends are welcome to picnic on the church grounds, please remove your own rubbish. The Ōtākou Memorial Church and Museum will be open with a Manawhenua host present to chat to or to ask your patai/questions. Haere mai, nau mai, tauti mai!
